Saturday, August 22 at 2pm Reedsport Church of God In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Reedsport Community Charter School to the Jim Mix Memorial Scholarship. -------------- James Gainford Mix June 29, 1945 – June 22, 2026 James Gainford "Jim" Mix passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, just one week shy of his 81st birthday. Jim was born on June 29, 1945, in Moscow, Idaho, to Rachael and Gainford Mix. He was raised in Moscow, where he graduated from Moscow High School in 1963. He continued his education at the University of Idaho, earning a bachelor's degree in Business Education in 1967. Jim remained a proud Idaho Vandal throughout his life. In 1963, Jim met the love of his life, Linda Dailey. They were married on July 14, 1967, beginning a beautiful partnership that would span 59 years. Following college graduation, Jim and Linda moved to Reedsport, Oregon, where they began their teaching careers and quickly became deeply rooted in the community they would call home for many years. Jim was an exceptional educator, coach, and mentor. During his years at Reedsport High School, he taught business education and was actively involved with Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and student leadership, leading his students to numerous state competition titles. As a coach, Jim left an enduring mark on generations of young athletes. He coached boys' and girls' basketball, varsity baseball, and, alongside Jack Walker, helped establish the school's varsity girls' softball program. Beyond the classroom and playing fields, Jim founded Reedsport's adult recreation basketball league and summer youth baseball program, creating opportunities for countless young people to learn, compete, and grow. After several rewarding years in education, Jim transitioned into the insurance and financial services industry, where he spent the remainder of his professional career as an insurance agent and financial advisor. His passion for serving others continued well beyond his profession through his tireless commitment to his community. Jim believed in giving back. He was an active member of Rotary, serving as club president and receiving the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award for his service. He also served on the Reedsport School Board, helped with the planning and development of the Winchester Bay RV Resort, was a proud member of the Cool Coasters Car Club, and spent countless hours coaching his own children in youth sports. Retirement brought new adventures for Jim and Linda. They moved to Bend, Oregon, where they embraced the outdoor lifestyle they loved, spending time snowmobiling, kayaking, pickleball, waterskiing, golfing, fishing, and camping. They later built a home in McMinnville to be closer to their growing family, where they resided together. They also found joy in escaping to their second home in Arizona, where they enjoyed sunshine, daily rounds of golf, and attending spring training and Major League Baseball games. One of Jim's greatest pleasures was cheering on his beloved Los Angeles Dodgers. Jim had a passion for classic cars and loved driving his Corvette and proudly showing his beautifully restored 1956 Ford pickup at car shows. He also loved gardening, traveling, fishing the St. Joe River in Idaho, and never missed the chance to celebrate catching the only fish on the family fishing trip—as he proudly did just last summer. His favorite things in life were often the simple ones: pizza and a cold beer, Jonathan apples, Linda's homemade strawberry pie, and making his famous popcorn balls for family and friends. While Jim enjoyed many hobbies, nothing meant more to him than his family. He treasured attending Oregon State football games with his son Jason, daughter Stacy, and their families. He never stopped cheering for the Idaho Vandals and especially loved telling the story of his daughter Jami becoming the first person to do a somersault inside the Kibbie Dome while it was still under construction. To his grandchildren, Grandpa Jim created memories that will last forever. Summers at Loon Lake meant "whirly birds" while blasting his favorite song, Louie Louie. He was always ready to teach them his signature baseball pitch—the change-up—and encourage them in every game, activity, and adventure. His greatest joy came from simply being with the people he loved. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Gainford and Rachael Mix, and his brother, Terry Mix. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Linda Mix; his daughters, Jami (Dave) Fluke and Stacy (Nick) Mix-Nunn; his son, Jason (Sandra) Mix; his grandchildren, Rachael, Payton, Maddie, Caden, Brayden, and Macy; his step-grandchildren, Morgan,Haley, Caden, Asher, and Dash; and his great-grandson, Bo. He also leaves behind many extended family members, dear friends, former students, athletes, colleagues, and community members whose lives were enriched by knowing him. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brick & Bloom, 418 S. Trade Street, Amity, Oregon, and on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Reedsport Church of God. In lieu of flowers, the family has established the Jim Mix Memorial Scholarship to support future students. Jim's legacy lives on in the students he inspired, the athletes he coached, the community he helped build, and, most importantly, in the family he loved so completely. His kindness, generosity, humor, unwavering support, and love for life will continue to be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
